day 6. love and anguish.
today is full. of love and pain and friends and babies and scripture and blues and brunches and shows and a wedding too.
this one's for jane and kampy; may you love each other every day as much as you do today!

88
i believe. in everything being a sign. no coincidence, just fate. full moons and black cats, energies and instincts, signs and forebodings, omens and superstitions. good and evil.
a few weeks ago, on a glorious montreal sunday, i took this shot. it was the 88 that drew me in.
i liked it more than i should, but forgot it just as quickly. last week, it popped up again.
88. this time, in a work situation. a project with it in the title. it was not to be, we came to a crossroads and took a left, not a right. but the sign at the intersection was a clear 88. i dug out the photo again.
last night i dreamt about my upcoming birthday. it happens to be 38.
today i am posting the photo. and wondering what stories it still has to tell

day 4. all rules broken. ode to utermohlen.
let's start over. day 4. thursday.
i have to do a self-portrait. a proper one. none of that mirror shit.
my research led me to discover the greatest self-portrait series ever. by william utermohlen, painter.
utermohlen self-portraits
my favorite of his self-portraits is one entitled 'the studio', 1977. his wife was always amazed he could make art in such an "impossible space". for a while he tried.
it reminded me a lot of my current impossible space. eek. but i'm trying.

many thanks to amy sobol for her goodwill and assistance throughout numerous numerous takes.

day 3. tuesday
truth be told, i waited for the hour of midnight to come so i could post this. i took it on my walk home.
this place tells a story. to me. about winning and losing, love and heartbreak, inspiration and despair, joy and misery. and most unwaveringly, the perfect glass of jameson, an always open table, a back alley made for sneakin smoke and a pitch black backdrop. all hail

starshine
today i started working with a photo mentor. she asked me to start a blog and post a picture each day. i will start with this one. i took it two nights ago on my way home from josh's. rue hutchison takes on a different feel at night in the fall. the warmth in the windows as people prepare for the long cold months ahead. i wish i lived here for the winter. it looks good, books, desk, and a shining star. what more could one ask for.
